Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Food Preparation
- Prepare breads and pastries following specifications of Deli Manager using case plans.
- Maintain accurate up-to-date records of cost of preparing baked goods.
- Research and develop new recipes to recommend to Deli Manager.
- Measure and mix ingredients to form dough or batter, using electric mixer or beat and stir ingredients by hand
- Shape dough for cookies, pies, and pastries
- Place shaped dough portions in greased or floured pans and insert them in oven
- Prepare and cook ingredients for pie fillings, puddings, custards, or other desserts
- Pour filling into pie shells and top filling with meringue or cream
- Mix ingredients to make icings
- Decorate cakes and pastries
- Blend colors for icings and for shaped sugar ornaments and statuaries
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly
- Manual dexterity
- Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals and equipment
- Ability to bend, lift and reach repeatedly for extended periods of time
- Ability to stand in confined space for extended periods of time
- Ability to perform repeated actions for extended periods of time
- Must be willing and able to physically handle all products that Valley Natural Foods carries
Minimum Qualifications:
- Regular, predictable attendance
- Demonstrated knowledge of gluten-free baking
- Previous professional baking experience (1-3 years progressive)
- Previous customer service experience.
- Excellent organizational and communication (oral, aural, and written) skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Detail oriented
- Ability to multi-task and remain flexible to the changing needs of the business
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous cake decorating experience
- Gluten-free baking experience
- Familiarity with natural and organic foods.
- Familiarity with natural foods, grocery industry or cooperatives
- Previous experience in a retail environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Office and POS systems.
